First Day of Autumn

Good Afternoon, World!!! Happy first day of autumn. Today, totally feels like an autumn day here in Seattle. Hell, it has been feeling like autumn for most of the month of September here in Seattle. In fact it is going to be one of those days I will stay home and cuddle with my cat especially since I have already done what I needed to do both work wise and errand wise.

Before I continue on what I am going to do for the rest of the day, I want to tell you about my one on one, supervision with my supervisor went. My supervisor and I had a supervision today. We discussed things going on at work. The best part of it was that he is “happy” with my notes and is “impressed” that I asked ways that I could communicate better with the young adults better. My supervisor informed me of various ways and he thinks I do a “pretty good job” with communicating overall.

Now on to what I am going to do on this very fall like weather on the first day of autumn. First and fore most I will be be spending some time with my cat, Lil Gertie. Lil Gertie is my pride on joy and am happy that I adopted her. In fact when I went to adopt a cat, Lil Gertie chose me and when she did, she rescued me. I didn’t really rescue her because I think she does more for me than I do for her. I love my cat, Lil Gertie so very much and it’s hard to think how my life would be different if I didn’t have my cat.

Since the day is a yucky autumn day I am going to stay inside for the reminder of the day. Besides spending it with my cat, I will be reading. I am reading How to Be an Antiracist. Yes, I am still reading because I put it down for about a week so I could focus on finishing up another book for a book club I am a part of. I love to read and am grateful that it is one of my go to things to do for relaxing as well as a DBT skill.

Another thing I will be doing today is art work. Specifically, I will be coloring. I am working on multiple coloring projects. I love to color. Coloring is another thing that is relaxing for me as well as DBT skill I go to a great deal. I hope to share with you with what I am coloring so you can see the progress. Coloring is also a mindfulness exercise for me.

I do not have much more to say. I just want to thank you for reading my blog. It is greatly appreciated from my end of things. Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading my blog. I hope everyone has a great week ahead. Also, enjoy you first day of autumn. Peace Out, World!!!

Everyday Inspiration; Day 11: A Cup of Coffee

Good Morning, Word!!! If we were having coffee right now, I sure in the hell wouldn’t be drinking coffee as I highly dislike the taste of coffee. I love the smell of coffee, I just don’t like the taste.

You would think living in Seattle with multiple coffee shops on each block you would think I would be a coffee fan by now but that is not the case. I, however love my fair share of hot chocolate and hot tea. Depending on the season of the year is what I tend to order if I go to a coffee shop. I prefer ma and pop coffee shops over famous shops.

For instance, during the autumn (fall) months I love getting the London Fog. I find it highly soothing and comforting. I also find hot chocolate comforting. I do find myself ordering peppermint hot chocolate when the holidays are upon us. I am by no means attempting to rush the holidays to get here any quicker than they are already.

Life passes us by so quickly which it why I think we need to take a “coffee break” and enjoy each other company even if coffee isn’t are desired drink of choice. I know I make an effort to have a “coffee date” with a handful of friends on the weekly basis so we can support each other as well update each other on how our lives are going. Yes, the majority of my friends order coffee when I usually order a London Fog, Hot Chocolate or Peppermint Hot Chocolate but that is okay as long I am able to spend time with those who care about me.

Thank you again for reading and I hope to be able continue blog with Finding Your Everyday Inspiration course that WordPress puts on. Thanks for being an active part of my blog. You all are awesome. I hope everyone has and awesome Sunday. Enjoy the simple things life has to offer you like, coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Peace Out, World!!!

Daily Prompt: Autumn Leaves

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Autumn Leaves.” Changing colors, dropping temperatures, pumpkin spice lattes: do these mainstays of Fall fill your heart with warmth — or with dread?

Happy Autumn!!! Today is the first day of Autumn in the United States. It being the first day of Autumn is why I chose to do this (past) daily prompt. Yes, I know I have already blogged today for Blogging 201, which I am enjoying and yet to blog for Writing 101, which I am enjoying as well. I just thought it would be cool to blog about Autumn since it is the first day of Autumn.

I don’t mind early Autumn because of all the beautiful colors it brings. It is mid to late Autumn that I personally dread. I dread Autumn because that is when my depression typically starts to get worse. Don’t get me wrong I struggle with my depression all year, it just gets worse in mid to late Autumn as the days get shorter and as the weather changes from dreary rainy days and to frequent wind storms that love to bring the major rain. I guess you can say my depression is affected by the timing of the year. I don’t just dread mid to late Autumn because of the short days and horrible weather, I also dread winter for the same reason.

Due to the shorter days and not so good weather that Autumn and Winter bring, I make sure I take care of myself. I make sure I have good sleep hygiene. That means go to bed at the same time every night and getting up at the same time every morning or at least as much as possible. I also go for two daily walks despite how horrible and miserable the weather may be. I also make sure I am eating on the regular basis and making sure I’m eating as healthy as possible. (We all know that late Autumn to mid Winter brings the holidays where eating healthy can be difficult.) Not only do I make sure I get the proper sleep and exercise and eat healthy, I make sure I take my meds as scheduled and go to my appointments with my therapist and psychiatric nurse practitioner. Doing all the above things don’t always make me feel better but at least they wont make me feel worse nor will the above activities make the situation worse.

Not making the situation worse is what works best for me on the dark gloomy days of late Autumn through Winter. For those of us who struggle with a mental illness, just knowing the time of year our symptoms are at their worst is helpful in itself especially if you are at the beginning stages of recovery. It is also helpful for the people in our lives that help us; weather they are professionals or friends and/or family.  Having supportive people is also extremely helpful. I know that the people in life are well aware that mid Autumn to late Autumn through Winter are when I struggle the most with my mental illness.

Now that I have explained why I dread Autumn, it is now time to end this post. I need to work on my Writing 101 assignment and most likely be posting that later on. I need to give my eyes a break for now. Have a great first day of Autumn. Peace Out!!
